Joss Whedon told Entertainment Weekly’s Michael Ausiello that he’s trying to get his former Firefly star Summer Glau on Fox’s Dollhouse in its second season, but not in a role you might expect.
“Summer would be perfect to play an active, but she’s done that [type of role] a lot,” Whedon told Ausiello. “I’d rather see her play someone who talks too much. The most fun I have is when I get somebody who’s good and comfortable at doing something, and then I make them do something else. Summer said to me, ‘I would like to play a normal girl before I die of extreme old age.’”
‘Tomb Raider’ Reboot Will Be A Prequel
“We’re rebooting Lara Croft as well, [we’re] real excited,” Lin said. “It’s a great origin story that we’re going to tell, a very character oriented…I would say more realistic [film] than the past Lara Croft movies.”
Lin confirmed that there have been no casting decisions made but that the new film will be an origin story.
Will Angelina Jolie be back?
Lin says they will be seeking a younger actress to play the role of Lara Croft.
Will the new film have full on action?
“It’s not full on action,” Lin says. “I would say its like Terminator…its character driven action. You know I think for me the Lara Croft games and movies have gone a little too action oriented. I wanted to have action but with character.”
The Tomb Raider reboot, which as yet has not been given a title, is expected to hit theaters sometime in 2012.
A New ‘Buffy The Vampire Slayer’ Feature Film
Original Buffy the Vampire Slayer director Fran Rubel Kuzui is getting ready with Vertigo Entertainment to make a second Buffy feature film.
Fran Rubel Kuzui directed the first movie starring Kristy Swanson as Buffy and served as Executive Producer on both Joss Whedon’s television series and its spinoff series Angel.
As far as connections go that’s about it. Word is Joss Whedon probably won’t be involved and neither will any of the characters from the TV series – although the filmmakers haven’t yet ruled out Whedon’s involvement.
Kuzui and Vertigo are planning on completely restarting the story line so that it doesn’t infringe upon Whedon’s buffy-verse apart from retaining the basic premise: that each generation has its own vampire slayer to protect it. They also plan to go darker with the new incarnation and start an all new franchise.

Columbia developing Barry Sonnenfeld’s Tom Swift movie
Columbia Pictures has nabbed Swift, a pitch by Barry Sonnenfeld and Ben David Grabinski, which is described as a re-imagining of the boys’ sci-fi Tom Swift adventure novels, Variety reported.
The project is being developed as a Sonnenfeld directing vehicle.
The Tom Swift character first appeared in a series of books that launched in 1910. The original books were outlined by Edward Stratemeyer, written by ghostwriters and credited to pseudonym Victor Appleton.
Star Trek’s fourth weekend:
Star Trek continued to have legs, coming in at fifth place, with $12.8 million for the weekend, raising its domestic total to $209.5 million, becoming the first 2009 release to cross the $200 million mark and outselling Monsters vs. Aliens to become the highest-grossing movie so far this year. Over the weekend Star Trek edged its worldwide gross to $301.5M ($209.5M US domestic + $92M foreign box office).
J.J. ABrams’ hit film now not only sits in the no.1 spot as the highest grossing film of 2009 but has also entered the all time top 100 list for highest grossing films in the US.
Presently Star Trek sits at no.81 behind Back to the Future ($210.6M) and will probably surpass Back to the Future once the final weekend’s figures are in. You can also expect it to climb much higher in the list as the next 14 highest grossing films are separated by less than $10M.
Star Trek still has a way to go to enter the top 100 highest grossing films of all time. The 100th highest grossing film is Sex and the City with $415.3M. It could still do it, however, as the film continues to generate sound takings worldwide and has yet to be released in three major markets: Hong Kong (4 June), India (12 June) and one of the top grossing foreign markets in the world, Mexico (5 June).
