Promos:

Our Chat with Chase Masterson and Jame Kerwin about R.U.R.

The filmmakers behind 2009’s award-winning noir feature film Yesterday Was a Lie (www.yesterdaywasalie.com) announce their next project: a film based on the classic Karel Capek play R.U.R.

Produced entirely by a non-profit arts organization, Yesterday Was a Lie earned 25 film festival awards (including over a dozen for Best Feature) and was listed among the Ten Best Films of the Year on the Festival Circuit by Film Threat. The visionary motion picture was picked up by Entertainment One and released in December 2009, followed by a DVD release in April 2010. (The film was also adapted into a graphic novel, and its critically acclaimed soundtrack is available from La-La Land Records.)

RUR

For their next project, writer/director James Kerwin and writer Andrew R. Deutsch return to a script on which they’ve been ruminating for years — a highly stylized adaption of R.U.R.

Helicon is presently in development on R.U.R. as a feature-length motion picture. In the meantime, we intend to produce this short “spin-off” film, focusing on some of the story’s supporting characters, to be released on the Internet as an introduction to the world we’re creating.

Actress Chase Masterson (Star Trek), who co-starred in Yesterday, is attached to play the lead in the short.

Written in 1919 — and decades ahead of its time — R.U.R. is a sharp commentary on progress, politics, and relationships, accurately predicting advances in biotechnology and setting the tone for future science fiction masterpieces like Metropolis and Blade Runner.

Silhouettes

Our Chat with John Mierau about Enemy  Lines in Print.

From John:

My name is John Mierau. ENEMY LINES is a near-future adventure novel. It’s built on mystery, danger, a touch of humor, and exciting characters you will root for… but they won’t always win.

Now I want to make it available in ebook and Print. I created this IndieGoGo campaign to fund editing & cover illustration.

UPDATE: [Dec. 28,2011]

Every funder, big and small, is proving they believe in ENEMY LINES & putting their money where their mouth is. If this campaign is fully funded…

ALL funders will be included in a random draw for a Kindle Fire & all my ebooks!

(shipping extra outside USA!)

My fiction is available as ebooks for the Amazon Kindle & also as unabridgedAudiobooks via iTunes, released as podcasts which have been downloaded over 400,000 times!

Like all authors, I’m worth exactly what you think I am…so I’ve made one of my most popular novellas, HARLAN’S WAKE, a *free* download on SmashwordsiBooks &Kindle. Please check out my work. I hope you’ll want more, & help me write more by supporting this project.

I’m an Indie author. That means that in three years, I’ve never made an advance on a novel. I WANT YOU to by my publisher. My Patron… and a HAPPY READER.

What’s ENEMY LINES about? Well now, that would be telling! In short, it’s a near-future adventure about conspiracies, spies and aliens-where the lines aren’t as clear as you think.  I don’t want to spoil it by saying more, but if you like hints, you can check out the Book Trailer, or the transmedia campaign I put together with some of the top audiobook and podcast fiction voice around: ENEMY LINES: Transmissions‘.

Here’s where *you* come in!

I’m an independant artist. I’ve never had an advance, a publicity budget or an editorial staff. I do everything myself or I have to find someone who can help.

To me, IndieGoGo feels like the best way to reach out to my readers to fund what I’m creating *for* them. I don’t believe I need a publisher to commission beautiful covers and pay for editng and printing costs. That just drives up the cost for you, and the profits for another company.

What ENEMY LINES Needs & What You Get:

Please, crash-test my stories on your Kindle, iTunes & iBooks. Learn about ENEMY LINES via the video BOOK TRAILER & audio Transmissions‘. I hope that makes you a fan and an IndieGoGo supporter.

So what do you get? You crowd-source the release of ENEMY LINES, book 1, and you get me working, creating new words for you.

…but that’s not all, visit the link above to find out more!

Jewel Staite: Firefly’s Kaylee vs. Stargate’s Keller—who’d win?

Kaylee vs. Keller, the ultimate death match: Who wins?

That’s kinda like saying “My Little Pony vs. Simon from Alvin and the Chipmunks: Who wins?” But I think it’s safe to say Kaylee’s friends fight dirtier. So, Kaylee. (P.S.: They also have a cooler ship. I don’t care if it doesn’t go under water. Think Atlantis can pull a Crazy Ivan? I don’t frigging think so.)

Liam Neeson reveals he IS in The Dark Knight Rises

For months now, we’ve all been wondering whether actor Liam Neeson was going to be in The Dark Knight Rises. With the actor playing coy—or rather, playing the ”comatose amnesiac patient” card regarding the fate of his character, Ra’s al Ghul—we almost never thought it would happen! Until we finally got to hear exactly what we wanted.

The actor has confirmed to showbizspy that he’s indeed back as Ra’s al Ghul in TDKR and that he had filmed some scenes. However, the Irish actor has no idea what’s really in store for his character:

“I can tell you nothing about Dark Knight Rises, seriously. I was on set for maybe an hour-and-a-half and the director didn’t tell me anything of what it’s about. So, I’m being very honest when I say I have no idea what’s going to happen.”

An hour and a half is a short time to film anything, making us think that perhaps we may only get to see Ra’s al Ghul in flashback scenes (after all, the character appeared to die in that spectacular train crash at the end of Batman Begins; try to get out of THAT alive) with his beloved daughter Talia al Ghul. (Joey King plays the character as a young girl, and Marion Cotillard as the older Talia.)

Neeson may also have some scenes with a younger Bane (Tom Hardy), or he may also appear in flashbacks about Bruce Wayne’s (Christian Bale) past with the man who was his former mentor.

No matter how he appears in TDKR, we’re really excited to have him back as Ra’s al Ghul. Are you?

The Dark Knight Rises will soar into theaters on July 20, 2012.
